Are you geeking out?

Friday, February 25, 2011
Everytime I heard the word "geek", I'll picture a "nerd" boy wearing big glasses and carrying lotsa books ... ehehheh. From my high school years, I've always admire the one who are wearing glasses, for me, they really look intelligent and "he must be a smart boy!" what a silly perception right?

So, what is the meaning of "geek"?

From wikipedia,

The word "geek" is a slang term, with different meanings ranging from "a computer expert or enthusiast" to "a carnival performer who performs sensationally morbid or disgusting acts", with a general pejorative meaning of "a peculiar or otherwise dislike person, especially one who is perceived to be overly intellectual"

The word "geek" has been used in the NEW MEDIA FRAMEWORK. New media or the current media are as such; social network sites (FB, MySpace), online games, video sharing sites (YouTube) and gadgets such as iPods and smartphones (iPhone, BlackBerry).

From a current research on how do we really integrate these new media in our life, they have outlined three terminology or genres of participation with new media.

1) Hanging out

A genre of participation that correspond with friendship-driven practices in which engagement with new media is motivated by desire to maintain social connection with friends.

Activities: hanging out in FB, BBM (BlackBerry Messenger), WhatsApp Smartphone Messenger, "Twittering"

2) Messing around

A genre of participation that represents the beginning of a more intense engagement with new media. Focus on the workings and content of the technology and media themselves, thinkering, exploring and extending their understanding.

Activities: using search engines ("Googling"); other forms of online exploration such as web forums; using digital production tools in customizing and thinkering for media creation

3) Geeking out

A genre of participation primarily refers to an intense commitment or engagement with new media or technology often one particular media property, genre, or a type of technology.

Activities: programming, blogging, "moodling" in MOODLE, developing databases

From the above description, I guess am a "geek" after all! am blogging and it's considered as geeking out with new media ... ehhehehe

Am a "geek",

your kiss is not on my list

Wednesday, February 23, 2011
recently, i've been kissed so many time by mr. charlie. d*mn you mr. charlie!!!

mr. charlie is actually an insect locally known as "charlie" and it's name is rove beetle. come from the insecta class, coleoptera order and staphylinidae famili. according to this source , rove beetles' hemolymph contain toxic that are poisonous which is known as pederin (C25H45NO9).

mr. charlie (pic source)

Surprisingly, this insect neither sting nor bite, it just "kiss" you! Maybe you will feel a lil bit itchy and you might crushed charlie on your skin without noticing it and there you go, the pederin will cause blister and eventually irritate your skin.

"kiss" mark from mr. charlie

I've been using bio oil and vaseline petroleum jelly to help me heal the irritation skin. Bio oil contains vit A and vit E which are good to our skin and natural oil such as calendula, lavender, rosemary and chamomile oil and of course their breakthrough ingredient, the PurCellin Oil. What i like about using bio oil is that it quickly absorb into our skin not like the vaseline petroleum jelly. I just bought the petroleum jelly yesterday and spread it overnight and it still left the greasiness feel on my skin despite showering this morning.

Petroleum jelly
is actually a non-polar hydrocarbon hydrophobic compound which means that it repels water. Studies have shown that petroleum jelly has no medicinal effect on healing blisters.
From wikipedia:
Vaseline’s effectiveness in accelerating wound healing stems from its sealing effect on cuts and burns, which inhibits germs from getting into the wound and keeps the injured area supple by preventing the skin's moisture from evaporating.
Bio oil works similarly:
Bio-Oil contains no preservatives. Microbes (bacteria, fungi and moulds) require the presence of water (or water vapour) and, in most cases, oxygen, to survive and proliferate. Bio-Oil is anhydrous (no water present) making preservatives unnecessary as it is very difficult, if not impossible, for microbes to develop in this environment.
ointments

hopefully i'll get my "beautiful" skin back! so, mr. charlie, your kiss is not on my list!

xoxo,

p/s: my heart crushed everytime i think of it... not mr charlie, but you ... yes you...

money talk

Friday, February 18, 2011
For the past few weeks, I've always arrive early in the morning at my workspace. Changing my morning routine after breakfast to read the highlights news by Yahoo page give me time to rest a bit before start reading 'heavy stuff'. There will be a lot of information ranging from entertainment, people and what's happening around the world, beauty, health and so much more. I've realized that am more attracted to read more on beauty and health such as 5 sneaky things that make you look older and surprisingly more on financial tips but of course not on finance news! =p

This morning I've come to an article on 10 ways to stop marriage money fights The article give simple guideline on how to stop arguing about MONEY between husbands and wives but in my opinion really help in changing our habit and inshaAllah will bring more happy moments with our loved ones than spending more time fighting! One of the main point that attract me is "Learn when to discuss it". This is really related to our communication skills, don't wait until the bills arrived and when we are angry on something. We need to discuss when we are on the peace of mind, calm and set the time to discuss properly, make a date to discuss about the family financial (too many discuss word in one sentence ;p)

Other main points on the ways to stop arguing are:

-get organized (write down our budget, kept the bills and payment documents)
-create money saving ritual (which is important to make sure that we have something that I call a backup plan or emergency money)
-be honest and don't play the blame game (blaming our spouses on what happen is the reason on fighting, so lets be patience and stop blaming by discussing and finding the ways to set the family financial goal)
